Some people are very relaxed in front of a camera. Others tend to feel awkward. Offering an engagement session allows me to learn a little about my clients before the Big Day. Engagement sessions, while still a form of portraiture, are a great way to introduce myself and my camera to my clients in a relaxed and fun setting. This helps them feel comfortable and makes them willing to do what I suggest. Trust is formed, and come the Big Day, my clients feel more natural in front of the camera.
Below are some pictures from an engagement session with one of my couples, including where we took the pictures (yay google maps!).
Stop 1: Temescal Canyon Park. This is a great park with a nice hike that includes a waterfall and views of the Pacific, Santa Monica and Downtown LA. There's a little grassy area behind a hall that is ringed with trees and during the Spring, a little creek.

Stop #2: Off roading on Deer Creek Rd. I've been coming to this spot off and on since 1995. There's a small dirt parking lot and when you get there, after the dust settles, you've got a gorgeous view of the endless Pacific. And during the spring wild mustard plants bloom, creating a sea of yellow.

Stop #3: A spot of beach off of PCH. If you want to catch a sunset over the Pacific, you can pretty much pick any spot on PCH and pull over. This spot is nice because you can actually see the sun go down over the water instead of losing it behind hills.
